Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about Scale Study, features, and how it helps you track your scale progress.

What is Scale Study?

Scale Study is a practice companion for musicians. It helps you track which scales you can play, and at what tempo, so you can see your progress clearly over time. It doesn’t teach scales, it gives you a clear record of your real playing ability.

Does Scale Study require MIDI hardware?

The primary Scales feature does require a MIDI keyboard, as it listens to your playing to verify accuracy and tempo. However, Scale Study also includes a Practice Anywhere mode which tracks rhythm via tapping, so you can still practise without MIDI hardware connected.

Who is Scale Study for?

Scale Study is designed for students, teachers, and musicians who practise scales regularly. It’s especially useful between lessons, helping you remember what you’ve practised and track your improvement over time.

What features does Scale Study include?

Scale Study lets you log scales and tempos, track your maximum clean speed, and see your progress at a glance. It gives you a structured overview of your scale practice so you always know where you stand.

Is Scale Study free?

No, Scale Study is a paid app made by an indie developer. The C major scale is available for free, so you can try it and see how it works before purchasing.

How do I get started?

Download Scale Study, choose the scales you’re working on, play them using a MIDI keyboard. Over time, you’ll build a clear picture of your progress.

How does Scale Study handle my data?

Your scale data is stored locally on your device. Anonymous analytics may be collected to help improve the app.
